Your Questions, Answered

How do online sessions work?

Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive a Microsoft Teams link via email before the scheduled session time. All you need is a private space and a stable internet connection.

Can I book in for an initial chat first?

Absolutely, I offer a free 15-minute introductory phone call where we can discuss what brings you to counselling, answer any questions you may have and see whether we’re a good fit to work together.

How are parents involved in counselling?

A child’s well-being is often shaped by the people around them. Where appropriate, I work collaboratively with families whilst ensuring that children and young people have a safe and confidential space of their own. Parents may join the start of the initial session to discuss concerns and help their child settle into counselling. I may share general themes, progress, and practical ways to support your child at home or school.

However, the content of sessions remains confidential unless there are concerns about a child’s safety. If I believe a child is at risk of harm (self-harm, suicide, abuse, neglect or other safeguarding concerns), I have a professional duty to follow safeguarding procedures and share relevant information with appropriate individuals or services. These limits to confidentiality will always be explained at the start of counselling.

Are you insured and DBS checked?

Yes. I hold professional indemnity insurance, an enhanced DBS certificate, am a registered member of the BACP, and I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

The frequency of sessions is something we’ll decide together. Some people like the steadiness of meeting weekly, whereas others prefer a slower pace. We can review this as we go and find a pace that feels right for you and your needs.

How frequent are counselling sessions?

How many counselling sessions will I need?

There is no set number of counselling sessions. Some people come for a short period to work through a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term support. We’ll review things regularly and you can continue for as long as counselling feels helpful.

What is your cancellation and payment policy?

Payment is requested at least 24 hours before your appointment to confirm your session. If payment has not been received, I will contact you with a reminder. If payment remains outstanding and there has been no communication, I will assume you are unable to attend and the session will not go ahead.

I kindly ask that you provide me with 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a session. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, will be charged at the full session fee.

What information should I put in my enquiry?

Please provide enough information for me to respond to your enquiry, such as your name, contact details and a brief outline of the support you’re looking for.

If you’re enquiring on behalf of a child or young person, please avoid including detailed or sensitive information at this stage. Any relevant information can be discussed confidentially during the initial consultation.
